Gambling and FINANCIAL MARKETS

Gambling in the stock market and other financial markets is an every day experience for many investors. Some are gambling "over their head" and have the same characteristics as problem gamblers in recreational areas of gambling. In the late 1990s, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) agreed to review a pamphlet written by CCPG Executive Director, Dr. Marvin Steinberg which addresses these issues. The SEC links those with a problem gambling concern to the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling’s (CCPG) pamphlet, which includes the signs of problem gambling in the markets. This pamphlet plus three papers related to problem gambling in the financial markets may be accessed by clicking each resource listed below:

bullet Gambling and Problem Gambling in the Financial Markets: Perceptions of Securities Attorneys (PDF)
bullet Perceptions of Connecticut Stock Brokers Concerning Problem Gambling in the Stock Market and Extent of Brokerage Firm Responsibility for Prevention (PDF)
bullet Model Employer Management of a Case of Stock Market Gambling (PDF)
